THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…

Letter: V

ACTIVITIES

Craft Time

Letter V for vulture

Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (the back paper is 4×6), you can click on the template below to save and print. Make an example for them to follow and don’t forget google eyes!

Vote: let them vote which activity to do next and teach them what a vote means. They voted to do the volcano experiment first.

V is for volcano

Prep: You can do this experiment however fancy you want but I went with ultra simple with whatever I had on hand. You’ll need a narrowish jar or whatever you have on hand that makes a good volcano mouth and enough to fill. I used my son’s plastic beakers he had from a science kit. Then I wrapped it in brown craft paper to create a “mountain”, put it in a cake pan, filled the base with dirt, then filled the beakers 1/3 full of  white vinegar and red food coloring. Lastly, I added a few dinorsaurs for fun (bonus points if you have velociraptors!)! When ready, just pour in a little baking soda and watch the volcano erupt! I figured they’d want to do it again so I made two.

Vegetable painting

Prep: Grab up a ton of vegetables, some paint and paper (we used washable paints but I recommend going outside, putting on messy clothes and using acrylics instead…the textures will show up way better!). Let them stamp, roll, press, whatever the different vegetables on their paper to create beautiful art!

Vehicle sort

Prep: Fill a container or tub with the cheapest shaving cream you can find (it’s white and fluffy). Fill another with water beads and set out over night. Lastly, fill a pan or another tub with kinetic sand or just plain dirt. Let the kids go on a scavenger hunt to find all the vehicles in the house (things that take you from location to another) then sort them between sky, water and land vehicles. They got a little extra creative with some of their vehicles but had a blast with each of the sensory bins!

Volleyball

Prep: Grab a blanket and a balloon ball or any light ball you want to use safely. We use our balloon ball from Postal Threads all the time and it’s perfect for indoor volleyball!
