THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…

Letter: O

ACTIVITIES (this week’s my 1 year old could do everything and he loved every minute! For the letter craft though I did give him a sheet of paper, some stamps and ocean animal stamps I had for him to do instead to make it a might bit easier for him.)

Craft Time

Letter O for owl

Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (back paper is gray and is 4.5″ x 6″, you can click on the template below to save and print). Make an example for them to follow. Place all pieces in a sandwich ziploc bag so they can open. (**the brown circles around the eyes are optional, I didn’t have the large google eyes and those eyes looked too small so I tried the brown circles…now it looks like a tired mommy owl! Haha! So do what you want to with that!)

Science Craft

Glowing Oil and Water

Prep: Set up some black lights (these are great!) on the table. Then fill some non-textured mason jars (or other jars) with baby oil (or any other clear oil). Gather eye droppers. Then mix this paint in some warm water stirring well to dissolve. When ready, let the kids squeeze the eye droppers into the paint and then drop them into the oil with the black light and watch the oil and water reaction. At the end, you can also seal the jar (if you use a mason jar) and turn it around to watch the oil drops float and move around.

Oil and Water Art

Prep: Cut out 5×7 watercolor paper. Put it into a pan to contain the mess. Mix several cups of watercolor paint and water. Fill a few cups with oil. Let the kids squeeze the eyedroppers into the paint and drop them all over the paper. Then follow up with squeeze oil onto the water to create unique reactions on the paper.

Ocean Bin

Prep: Fill a water table, basin, bucket etc with water and water beads according to directions and how much you need to fill. (I used 2 TBL of these beads to fill our water table). It sits overnight to reach full size. I filled a bowl of critters including ocean and land animals and had them figure out which creatures lived in the ocean (put into the water beads) or on land (put on the floor). This activity would have lasted hours more! They loved these water beads sooooo much!
