Oh man was today’s activities a big hit!!! So simple yet oh so fun! And something you can do at bath time as well for a new experience!
THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…
Letter: G
Color: green
Shape: octagon
Number: 7
ACTIVITIES
Craft Time
Letter G for giraffe (Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (back paper and is 4.5″ x 6″, you can click on the template below to save and print). Don’t forget the google eyes! Make an example for them to follow. Place all pieces in a sandwich ziploc bag so they can open and assemble with some glue.) **Let them see if they can find the spot that looks like an octagon and also count the spots.
Gak (Prep: Have clear ‘g’lue, liquid fabric starch, and food coloring. Pour a little glue into a bowl and mix in food coloring. Gradually a little at a time, stir in fabric starch until it reaches a goopy consistency.)
Game
Red light, Green light (using the sticks from week 1)
Science
Glow sticks (Prep: Black out any windows and fill a bathtub with water and bubbles. Then break some glow sticks and give them to the children. Let the fun ensue! Our boys had so much fun we didn’t even get to any games and they just didn’t want to stop!)
Growth chart (Prep: You can either purchase one or make one. I made ones for the other two children since they didn’t have one and made it from wood. Our family actually already had one so we just made a mark on it to show that g is for grow.) ***If you already have a growth chart and have recently marked it, you can always substitute this for a guitar craft using an empty tissue box, rubber bands and empty paper towel roll. Cut out a hole in one of the tissue box ends and stick the paper towel through. Then wrap the box with rubber bands over top the tissue opening. Let them decorate however they want!
Story Time
Gideon
Goodnight Gorilla
7 animals jumping on the bed (Our finger puppets again and letting them take one was certainly a hit!)
Snack
Giraffe sandwich…you can use peanut butter or apple butter or other darker jelly. I used kitchen scissors to help cut out the bread pieces. And of course the green grapes for the tree and extra “g’s”. You can use raisins or blueberries for the eyes and nose.
