This week we finally started getting more into our groove and finding what works the best for our group, so I’m looking forward to see how the upcoming weeks go!
THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…
Letter: F
Color: orange
Shape: triangle
Number: 6
ACTIVITIES
Craft Time
Letter F for flamingo (Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (back paper is orange and is 4.5″ x 6″, you can click on the template below to save and print). Don’t forget the google eyes! Make an example for them to follow. Place all pieces in a sandwich ziploc bag so they can open and assemble with some glue.) **I meant to include pink feathers (f for feathers) to glue on the “leg” of the flamingo but wasn’t able to get them that week since we changed our day to meet.
Folder decorating (Prep: Get 1″ folder and put sheet protector sleeves inside for all the arts and crafts to go inside. Have construction paper, stickers, glue, scissors, or whatever else you want them to use to decorate their folder. They can slide that in the front case of the folder and then put their art inside.)
Fox footprints: (Prep: Have paint, disposable plates, painting paper, brushes, wet and dry paper towels for quick clean up. Let them mix the colors to make orange, then press their foot into the paint and then onto the paper. Add the triangle ears and tail. After it has had time to dry, you can help them add the facial features and white tips on the tail.)
Game
Scavenger Hunt: find 6 items that…
- start with F
- are orange
- are in the shape of a triangle
Science
Flower color change (Prep: put white flowers into a jar. Let them choose what color they want and add a few drops of food coloring to the water. They will get to observe it change throughout the week.)
Fizzy water (Prep: Fill some dishes with baking soda. Fill a few cups with distilled white vinegar and add food coloring to each and add droppers to the cups. Your child can learn some pinching skills and some motor skills by squeezing and releasing the dropper to pick up the vinegar and then squeeze it into the baking soda.) **My son especially loved the fizzy water experiment but then he got over zealous and started having fun just pouring the whole cup! So we went through several cups after that!
Story Time
Jonah and the big fish
Farmer Brown
6 animals jumping on the bed (Our finger puppets again and letting them take one was certainly a hit!)
Snack
Pancake fish, 6 carrot scales, blueberries, strawberry, cheese triangles, orange slices
(find what is on the plate that starts with an f…”fruit”)
Extra bonus this week: I took our boys to a farm near us for F as well and he had such a fun time feeding the furry and feathered creatures (see what I did with all the f’s?)!
