THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…
Letter: M
ACTIVITIES
Craft Time
Letter M for mouse
Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (back paper is light blue and is 4.5″ x 6″, you can click on the template below to save and print). Don’t forget the google eyes! Make an example for them to follow. Place all pieces in a sandwich ziploc bag so they can open and assemble with some glue.
Science Craft
Milk Magic
Prep: Have ready a shallow dish, q-tips and cotton balls (optional), a small medicine cup of blue dawn soap, and food coloring. When ready, pour a little bit of milk into the dish. Squeeze drops of different color food dye into the milk all over. Don’t blend yet. Then dip the q-tip into the soap. Lightly touch the q-tip to the surface of the milk in the center and watch the reaction. Repeat several times after the reactions! They love it, but if you have real young ones just be aware they may just quickly mix it and you’ll have to start again! Once they get the hang of it, it’s such fun!!
Magnets!
Prep: Fill a jar with lentils. Find a bunch of metal pieces and a magnet wand. I used these. Let them put the pieces into the jar then shake to mix the metal and lentils out of sight. Then use the wand to put into the jar, or outside of the jar and discover the metal and magnet magic!
Magnet Painting
Prep: Have a cardboard box, some art paper cut and put into the box. Let the kids help fill a paint palette with your choice of water based kids paint. Drop the metal pieces into the paint and use tweezers to move them from the paint to the paper. Take your magnet wand and move it underneath the box around the metal piece and let it move across the page. Take it out and add another to add all sorts of new textures and colors!
Marshmallow Shooters
Prep: You’ll need an empty toilet tissue roll. Cut the tip of a balloon and tie the other end. Place marshmallows in it and voila! All set! We put up all the letter crafts we have done thus far all over the room and let them shoot the marshmallows at each as a target.
Mustaches & Mirror
Prep: Either draw on or wear some fun playful moustaches and let them look in the mirror and wear during story time.

Other Activities!
Father’s Day Gift
So I wasn’t totally excited about the fingerprints from last week especially since it didn’t show the lines very clearly with the kids having such tiny fingerprints. So…I came up with another idea that is on step 1. We took a road map (M for map) and stamped their fingerprints on the city they were born. I will then take those, make copies and make keychains with them this weekend with a jewerly bezel. (Pictures to come when finished and the whole process).
Snack
Macaroni monkey (you’ll have to use your imagination the form didn’t hold up ad kept spreading out so it didn’t look much like a monkey! At least the moose was cute!)
Mango
Mango jello (the new organic, healthy jello I’ve newly discovered and researched which I’ll share in a separate post)
Moose muffin (using animal crackers for the antlers, banana and raisins for the rest. I also used an organic, whole grain blueberry muffin mix)
