THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT THE…
Letter: X
ACTIVITIES
Craft Time
Letter X for x-ray fish
Prep: cut out all pieces of construction paper (the back paper is 4×6), you can click on the template below to save and print. Make an example for them to follow and don’t forget google eyes!
Xylophone (and water xylophone)
Prep: If you have a xylophone, use that along with a water xylophone! Get a few clear glasses (doesn’t have to be fancy, these just happened to be the only clear cups I had) and add water at varying volumes. I added food coloring to see better. Then let them lightly (in this case, extrememly gently) see what it sounded like when the glass was tapped and how it changed when the volume of water changed.
X marks the spot
Prep: We created a map of the house and marked x’s in different rooms that we hid some toys in with a foam x on top similar to our pirate day. They had such fun that we ended up hiding lots of x’s and just writing them in different colors on the map for them to find the “blue x’s” or “red x’s” etc.
X-Ray
Prep: I had a light board and an old x-ray from when one of our cats broke his leg so we used that to teach what an x-ray was and then made and “x-ray” sensory activity with a sealed bag of molasses.
X-Ray hand
Prep: Have black construction paper, mix some white tempera and white acrylic paint with some water in a spray bottle, cookie tray, tape, wipes and have some glue and q-tips. Using the cookie trap, tape lightly the back of the black construction paper to keep it from sliding around. Put the child’s hand and part of arm onto the black construction paper and hold up vertically or flat (depending on how well your spray bottle wants to cooperate). Then spray around their hand and arm with the white paint to create an outline. Remove their hand and clean. Then take the q-tips and glue to make “bones”. (This one wasn’t the cleanest and best example since he moved his arm at the wrong timing but the others turned out awesome! You can break the q-tips for smaller bones and joints too.)
Bones (since we were discussing bones)
Prep: We used more black construction paper and q-tips and had them write their names like bones. We also did a counting game by using dice and rolling it to see how many “bones” to pick up. With my eldest, since he’s more advanced, I did some addition and subtraction equations.
Story Time
